Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church

Social Committee

Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Glen Eden is a small and quiet parish from the outside, but with the parishioners that attend every week, we are anything but! With about 50 different languages spoken throughout the parish, we are hugely multi-cultural, and all love to come together and celebrate what an awesome and vibrant parish we are.

The social committee was the brainchild of Fr. David Mullins, our parish priest in 2006. He suggested a committee be formed with the aim to get the parish community together on a social level, as well as that spiritual level that we see every Sunday. The group originally consisted of six members. We aimed to provide social functions that families could attend, and also have hampers and sausage sizzles to fundraise, which we then invested back into the church. The social committee rose to provide money toward a gift for Fr. David on his golden jubilee, and donated $2,000 toward the fund for youth attending World Youth Day in Sydney, Australia in 2008. On top of this, we have purchased a barbecue for sausage sizzles, a marquee for outdoor functions, and a karaoke machine – for those nights when parishioners want their time to shine!

We aim to provide four functions a year, and these range from Christmas parties for the children to mid winter events. We also host additional ad- hoc functions, for example Fr. David’s golden jubilee, and also the golden jubilee of our parish.
