Messages from our Parish Priests

We have passed the shortest day of the year and can look forward to longer days and eventually better weather.
The parish is in good heart and many people are participating in many different ways. The new volunteers are being incorporated into the rosters for the different ministries and activities.
Although we do not now have a social committee, the Ladies High Tea, Men’s Breakfast and Junior Youth Group have filled in the gap.
There have been functions too for Fr. Reno’s birthday which was on Tuesday this week. Happy Birthday!

The First Communion on July 4 was a wonderful occasion. Thanks to Fr. Reno, the teachers - Pramilla DaSilva, Christine Fonseca, and Maria D’Souza, the Legion of Mary and to all those who helped in any way.

    Blessings

    Fr. Dennehy

Father Bernard Dennehy

Fr. Dennehy is a Diocesan priest, ordained by Bishop Liston in 1964.  He comes to Our Lady of Lourdes after years of ministry  in several parishes like Panguru,  Dargaville, Otara, and nearer home  Ponsonby and Owairaka.  His priestly ministry has taken him to Peru where he served for eight years with the Columban Fathers. A keen student, Fr. Dennnehy has studied his Master of Theology and is also a Master of Arts in Maori Studies. Languages are his forté, being  fluent in Spanish and Maori.

Our sports enthusiasts will be delighted to know that Father Dennehy used to play golf, squash and used to be an intrepid sailor.  A bad back now limits his sailing activities.  And MOST IMPORTANTLY FATHER IS AN ARDENT FAN OF THE ALL BLACKS.

Assistant Parish Priest
I am Reno Llacuna Alima. I was born 20 July 1968 in a small island in the Philippines called Camiguin.
CAMIGUIN is a small pear-shaped volcanic island with a total land area of 238 sq. kilometers in the north west coast of Mindanao; southern part of the Philippines.
I am fifth of the seven children, with three brothers and three sisters. I was baptized by an Irish Columban Missionary, Fr. Pahey. I am a mercy boy. The Irish Sisters of Mercy were the administrators in our Catholic school during my primary and secondary school-days. I entered the seminary at sixteen. My devotion to our Lady and to the child Jesus kept me going in the seminary. While Sts. Francis of Assisi, Therese of Lisieux and Blessed Theresa of Calcutta inspired me in my vocation.
I was ordained a priest, 27 December 1996 in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Augustine, Archdiocese of Cagayan, my home diocese.
Arrived here in New Zealand 6 May 2007. I’ve been positioned in Thames, Coromandel June 2007 – January 2009. I was transferred to Balmoral February 2009.
Now, I’m assigned here at the parish of Our Lady of Lourdes. I am so grateful for the very warm welcome of Fr. Bernard, Msgr. David and all the parishioners last Sunday.
I believe that Christianity is a life lived in harmony with others seeking together the Will of God. With the grace of God I will try to be of help in this parish..
    May God Bless us all.
